Wonderful 4 day stay at Barra. Real value for money. Service was excellent especially restaurant staff. We bought fresh crayfish and prawns and the waiter of beach bar offered he would kitchen to prepare for us. Food was excellent and fresh. Rooms are rustic which was what I wanted. Cleaning staff superb. Will definitely return.

A sparkling white sandy beach sloping gently to the clear blue Indian Ocean. Lined with palm trees the perfect place for a stroll hand in hand along the beach.
The diving is out of this world Mantas, Whale sharks and Humpback whales are just some of the magical sights on offer.

The 5* rating is considering that this is a lodge in Mozambique. We loved every moment although the weather was 50% kind. Enough to do and affordable as a family. Child friendly. You do need the right attitude. If you order pizza and they tell you that the mozzarella is finished, be happy to accept cheddar….The lodge also manages the hawkers well as they could be a nuisance. Amenities are well organized. Facilities range from very basic to well furnished, aircon rooms. Staff are friendly. We loved the quad bikes and the trip to Pansy Island. The beach is wide and beautiful but it is sad to see that it isn’t kept perfectly clean. This is a place where you can chill and expect to experience African beach life in an unpretentious and non commercialized way. We will be back. Safest time in our opinion for the kids, considering mozies, is in July although the weather is a risk. Still take lost of repellant.

Barra offers an excellent range of activities.
The Padi dive centre is of the highest standard, no corners are cut when it comes to safety.
The quad bike tour of the local villages and Tofo is a must.
The new beach chalets (with air con) are a blessing if you’re heat sensitive.
Celebrated my 40th birthday and 19th wedding anniversary while at Barra Lodge; staff went out of their way to make both occasions memorable.

We stayed with Barra lodge from 19 May until 31 May and took our young children along.
We found the accomodation quite rustic, however that is what added to the charm of being there. The food was excellent. Babysitting was easily arranged when required. Staff were frindly and always went the extra mile to make the children happy.
The Dive centre (Barra Dive) is a very well run dive centre the runs like clockwork, briefings were thorough and the staff and instructors were very friendly and provided individual attention to all divers. All hire equipment used by us was in excellent condition. (scubapro)Safety was certainly practiced to the highest standard. All this contributed to very relaxed diving in some truly world class reefs.
